President Pervez Musharraf's New Book, "In The Line of Fire"

President Musharraf makes a few points in the book. One of them is, ""We had assisted in the rise of the Taliban after the Soviet Union withdrew from Afghanistan, which was then callously abandoned by the United States," Musharraf says. It was within this vacuum that Osama bin Laden and his al-Qaida terror network strengthened, thanks to the support of the Taliban's leader, Mullah Omar, he adds.Pakistan saw the Taliban as a means to end years of chaos in Afghanistan, which peaked during the 1992-96 civil war, says Musharraf, who came to power in a 1999 coup. He says Islamabad also saw the Taliban as a counter to Afghanistan's Northern Alliance, which favoured Pakistan's rival, India."

Oprah Winfrey Has a new Competitor in the Promotions and Book Business

Who would think that Oprah Winfrey would have a competitor in Venezuela's President, Hugo Chavez? Well, the Venezuelan president who presented a speech to the UN assembly last week did what many publishers and booksellers have been wanting to see. They want other book pushers to mention books that will move their sales online and offline. The U.N. address by the Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez, has had an unexpected impact on the best-sellerdom on Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble. At the start of his talk in which he had some poor choice of words for the president of the U.S.A, Noam Chmsky's book, "Hegemony or Survival: America's Quest for Global Dominance" was just like any other book on the online and offline bookstores. Since the mention, Hegemony or Survival, published in 2003, had jumped into the top 10 of Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.com. Many booksellers have ordered more copies of the book. Hegemony or Survival is flying off the shelves. Hugo Chavez is doing what Oprah Winfrey has been doing on her show. It is amazing that Hugo Chavez makes time to read. So he has a chance to redeem himself. With all the oil profits that come from CITCo, he can read any books he wants. It seems it is time for him to learn about this country.

Books Oprah Should Mention on her Show and in O Magazine

Why did I take so long to read Edward P. Jones's book, The Known World? In this book, Author Jones talked about black slave-owners in the Antebellum South. I think Oprah and her fans would find a lot to talk about should she invite Edward P Jones. Despite winning all the major literary awards there is to be won, why is it not made into a movie? Black on Black slavery in the South is not a topic that many historians wrote about. For many people, slavery was thought as the sole creation of the European or white folks. They do not understand that slavery flourished with the complicity of the African tribal chiefs, the needs for Europeans to grow more natural products such as sugar cane, cocoa for the Old world, greed, exploitation of a group with better education, equipment and weapon systems. The Known Word is a good book to read. Edward P. Jones also wrote, "All Aunt Hagar's children is a good book to read. He also wrote, "Lost in the City." l

New Book Details Woman's 6-year Live-in Relationship with California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger

Well, do not think that this relationship is in the present tense. It is so over. According to San Francisco Chronicle, Barbara Outland Baker really knows Arnold. She lived with him for 6 years. After breaking up with Arnold, she went through various relationships that did not last until she found her current husband, a photographer and retired aerospace manager. Reading the book makes you feel that the former sorority member and waitress who became a California English professor could not get over the huge muscles. The title of the book is "Arnold and Me: In the Shadow of the Austrian Oak. According to many readers, it is a very detailed and affectionate memoir. Outland Baker has been keeping a journal of her relationship with Arnold. In the book, Baker said she devoted herself to Schwarzenegger as he tried to become famous. She believed she would become his wife. This sounds like a jilted girlfriend's talk. No matter what type of feelings Baker had about the muscle man, she managed to keep a relationship with him. It makes sense that the governor gave her a foreword. It is obvious he would point out that Barbara's recollection of various events is different from his. Yes, he endorsed some parts of the book. But that was the 60s lifestyle on Venice Beach for many bodybuilders. "Big muscles attracted easy..." she wrote in the book. What is clear is that Arnold showed earlier signs of salesmanship, networking skills, psychology. He was keen on recognizing and connecting with intellectual value.

Earlier reports such as those found on the Defamer and other websites show that the giant publishing company, Random House, was ready to refund buyers of the new infamous book by Frey who was subsequently grilled on the Oprah Winfrey show. That would be a first in the industry.

"Random House will offer a refund to readers who bought James Frey's drug and alcohol memoir "A Million Little Pieces" directly from the publisher, a move believed to be unprecedented, after the author was accused of exaggerating his story.

"Readers calling Random House's customer service line to complain on Wednesday were told that if the book was bought directly from the publisher it could be returned for a full refund. Those who bought the book at a bookstore were told to try and return it to the store where it was bought.

Publishers Weekly Senior Editor Charlotte Abbott called the Random House refunds unprecedented, and said neither she nor her colleagues "had ever heard of something like this before."

According to MSNBC, all these reports are unfounded. So the publisher is not intending to refund buyers of the book. Owners of the Frey's memoir of alcohol and drugs will have to live with their books

Random House will not be offering a refund on James Frey’s controversial memoir “A Million Little Pieces.”

Here is The company's statement:

Contrary to erroneous published reports, Random House, Inc. is not offering a special refund on “A Million Little Pieces.” It has long been standard Random House Inc procedure to direct consumers who want a refund on any of the tens of thousands of books we publish back to their retail place of purchase, unless they purchased the book directly from us in which case we refund it. Yesterday we had 15 calls to our customer service line specific to “A Million Little Pieces” and fewer than that today.

This is not the end of the saga.
